1. Added Solenoid Valve
I replaced the use of an "air nozzle" on the end of an
air line being held into the back of the gun with and Electric
Solenoid opened valve.(electric sprinkler valve)
1a. I chose the "quick exhaust" type gun over the what I call the "over and under" type gun(thats what I call those with the barrel that runs over the top of the air chamber.)because I think that the compressed air runs into a "bottle neck" going through the valve, thus giving less power to each shot. If you look inside a diaphragm type valve you will see that the actual opening controled by the diaphragm IS NOT 1" even if the valve is called a 1" valve and has 1" pipe threads. The actual opening is only about 5/8"!
2. I changed from a Diaphragm to a Piston/Stopper
assembly.
By changing from a diaphragm to a piston assembly I create a
larger opening for the air to get from the air chamber to the
barrel, thereby pushing the spud out the barrel with much more
power. A diaphragm might flex open only 1/4" max. while a
piston can MOVE 1 inch or more.
3. I added Handles
Much easier to manage and aim gun. Also a logical place to place
a "trigger" to operate the Solenoid on the valve.
4. I added 2 "triggers" for safety.
Both must be pressed at the same time to fire the gun.
5. I added an on/off rocker switch to the power
circuit for safety.
(I did find a guy that used a key on/off switch to keep
unauthorized use to a zero or small kids from using it
unsupervised.
6. I added a spring behind the piston to aid in
sealing the air chamber after each shot.
Without a spring , a rapid air charge is needed to seat the
piston/stopper assm. to an air tight seal. With the addition of
the spring you can add air pressure at any speed.(ex. hand air
pump , small 12 volt air compressor.)
7. I added an Air Gauge.
It is safe to know you are not adding TOO MUCH air to the air
chamber. By accurately varying the air pressure you can soot moor
accurately.
8. I added a safety pressure relief valve.
Self explanatory.
9. I added the ability to change barrel size.
You can shoot many diff. size ammo.
10. I added a battery box.
I use this to house the batteries (insted of just strapping them
to the gun with tape.) and the on/off power switch.
11. I plan to add an adjustable site.
Made from pvc pipe and all-thread.
12. I plan to change the power switch to an
illuminated one.
I can tell if the safety is on or off at a glance.
