Welcome to my Damage Page.

This is not well organized , it is really a copy of an e-mail.... but you should find it interesting.

Tonight  I made a steel tipped projectile to try to pierce a piece of 1/4" steel plate. I made the  projectile from a piece of 23" X1/2" rebar , welded a 1/2" X 6" grade 8 bolt to the end, sharpened it and then welded a washer to the other end and then a larger washer to the first one so that the large one just fit inside my 2" barrel.   I  braced the plate up on the floor, then for safety I place two 55 gal. drums abut 8" apart in front of the target. I had to shoot between them. then got another one  and knelt behind it <just in case it came back at me> and fire the air cannon. Big Recoil.... lots of noise .   I did not grind the head of the bolt down any. When the projectile hit it made a hole almost 5/8" in dia. and almost pushed the head of the bolt through the steel also! then it bounced back about 5 ft'.  If I had not left the head on the bolt  the washers would be the only thing stopping it from going through the wall of the shop and who knows where else.   pictures attached.the hard one to make out is the back side of the steel plate with the spike through it.... notice how large the hole is compared to the spike.   Patrick Parsons.
